Last week we enjoyed what was likely the last sunny and warm day of the year. In the hopes of enjoying it (and getting a few minutes of peace from a toddler refusing to nap at home) I went driving.
I'm sure that the powers that be must have some good reason for cutting this tree on Belle Isle the way they did. I just can't figure out what the hell that good reason was.
On a street between Jefferson Ave and the river, I came across this house on a street where just about the only other building standing was another house in almost the same condition. The foundation in the back had collapsed at some point, tilting the whole thing at an odd angle. Like so many other houses left to fall apart, this one was just sad. It was once a lovely house before people just gave up.
It takes a lot to creep me out, but this area does for some unknown reason. There are no houses on these streets - just lots of streets in good condition, fancy streetlights, sidewalks along the road on some streets. Each lot has a marker on it, as if it was still waiting for houses to pop up, even though these streets have looked the same for at least a couple of years. Perhaps the fact that houses used to be in this sea of nothing is what creeps me out - many of the lots have plants and trees that clearly surrounded a formerly standing house.
